Got a Tip?

‘Lost In Space’ Trailer Ditches The Camp, Adds Tons Of Action

There was a time, not too long ago, when you knew that any series released on Netflix is worth a binge-watch. You just knew that they only produce quality content, and everything they release is must-see television. Well, those days are long gone. With a new TV series released every week, it seems, there’s just so much mediocre content that you can’t know for sure what to expect. That’s the feeling I get when I watch the new trailer for “Lost in Space.”

The trailer looks fine. But it also looks just generic enough that it could be a complete turd. It’s pretty, and obviously cost Netflix a pretty penny, but is that enough? With hundreds and hundreds of hours of quality content streaming right now, does the world really need a gritty remake of a campy show from 50 years ago? At least the robot looks interesting.

While there’s plenty of room for skepticism, one thing is for sure, there’s a strong cast. Toby Stephens, Molly Parker, Taylor Russell, Mina Sundwall, and Max Jenkins star as the Robinson family, who are…lost in space. But making things interesting is Parker Posey as Dr. Smith, who is described in the synopsis as unsettingly charismatic, whatever that means.

The show is brought to you by showrunner Zack Estrin, who is best known for his work on “Prison Break,” and written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, from “Dracula Untold” and “The Last Witch Hunter.” See, could be great, could be crap. Who knows?

The show is being released all at once, as Netflix does, on April 13.
