Christopher McQuarrie Reportedly Approached For 'Green Lantern Corps'

Another day, another Warner Bros./DC movie rumor that may or may not happen.

Today’s rumor is that plans are moving forward with the “Green Lantern Corps” film that has long been discussed, with Warner Bros. apparently approaching writer/director Christopher McQuarrie as a potential helmer. If you detect a bit of skepticism in our tone, then you’re a very perceptive reader, and spot-on. This latest rumor comes from the good folks over at The Hashtag Show, which has been known to create buzz based around potential things maybe happening sometime in the future.

Now, IF McQuarrie were attached to the film, and will now be added to the list of filmmakers that have been rumored to tackle a DC Comics film, then this would be exciting news. The filmmaker is responsible for the last two “Mission Impossible” films, with ‘Fallout’ upcoming, and he’s shown he’s a very capable action director. Even with “Jack Reacher,” he’s shown to have a pretty good grasp of action and intelligence, which could make his potential “Green Lantern Corps” infinitely better than the dreadful “Green Lantern” film starring Ryan Reynolds.

As we mentioned above, since you’re a perceptive reader, you might have caught the connection between all those McQuarrie action films – Tom Cruise. Cruise has been a bit of an action muse for McQuarrie, and it seems wherever McQuarrie goes, Cruise follows. This connection has relit the flame of a months-old rumor that Tom Cruise was on the “shortlist” for the newest Green Lantern film. Combine that rumor with the new rumor about McQuarrie, and you guessed it, everyone thinks Tom Cruise is the newest Green Lantern!

As logical as it may seem, this is all very early to judge. First, we need confirmation that McQuarrie is tackling the space cop franchise. Then, let’s assume that Warner Bros. is down for 55-year-old Tom Cruise leading a brand-new action franchise. Granted, the man doesn’t seem to age, but that’s a stretch. Finally, let’s not forget they’d have to figure out something for him to hang off of and risk his life, and considering this takes place in space, that might be difficult.

Take all this news with the proverbial grain of salt, and go about your day. As exciting as all this news might seem, remember that we’ve been down this rumor-filled road before with DC films, and all it does is make us sad in the end.
