Oh well, this wasn’t necessarily a surprise.
Is Louis C.K.’s career done? While facing multiple sexual harassment claims against (five women in a report by The New York Times) and not lawyering up, the industry is “swiftly backing away from the director, actor, and writer.” Is it all over for him? Who knows, but at one point he was outright refusing to comment on the allegations, saying as early as last April, “I’m not going to answer to that stuff because they’re rumors. If you actually participate in a rumor, you make it bigger and you make it real.” The release of his new movie, “I Love You, Daddy” which he wrote, directed and starred in has been scrapped and its studio, The Orchard, have altogether parted ways with it. Netflix, has also canceled his upcoming stand-up special. Just this month C.K. bought back the right to his film, which, quite honestly, makes sense because there are no doubt curiosity seekers that want to watch “I Love You, Daddy.”
However, what C.K. can’t keep is his voiceover work for “Gravity Falls,” as Disney has confirmed that they will erase his past voice work for the animated show. Louis voiced the character of “The Horrifying Sweaty One-Armed Monstrosity” and according to THR, his voice will be replaced by series creator Alex Hirsch.
A spokesperson for the Disney Channel confirmed:
“The role was rerecorded approximately one month ago and new versions of three episodes are now on the Disney XD schedule around the world, series creator and executive producer Alex Hirsch is now credited as playing the character.”
I won’t go into the nitty-gritty and analyze it all. Suffice to say, it’s nevertheless a predictable outcome for the 50-year-old comedian, whose career is now in limbo due to the controversies surrounding him. He did deliver an actual apology last November, in which he didn’t try and redirect the topic, unlike Kevin Spacey‘s infamous “coming-out party” earlier that month. C.K. didn’t run from the issue, unlike Weinstein’s exit to Europe and total lack of compassion or apology. He didn’t victim blame, he owned up, confessed, and, most of all, spoke about the power he held over these women and how he abused it. But that doesn’t mean he’ll be forgiven. Regardless, his egregious behavior deserves all the consequences that have come to him in recent months and the industry will surely continue to shun him for the foreseeable future.
