Got a Tip?

Lucasfilm To Focus Entirely On Legacy Franchises After ‘Children Of Blood & Bone’ Creative Issues

Lucasfilm in 2022 is a bit of a mystery. Sure, the company has a steady stream of “Star Wars” TV series coming out (as the studio tries to figure out where to take the film franchise), but what else is Kathleen Kennedy up to? Well, we know there’s a new “Willow” series. And there’s a new “Indiana Jones” that might eventually be released (it’s been delayed for years for one reason or another and is seemingly in production now). But is there anything new? What happened to the Lucasfilm that used to release new properties and wasn’t obsessed with legacy sequels? Well, friend, that seems to be well in the past.

According to a new report from THR, Lucasfilm is getting out of the original content game and focusing its entire world on sequels and spinoffs of existing franchises, such as “Star Wars,” “Indiana Jones,” and “Willow.”

The news of Lucasfilm completely focusing on franchises comes after the report talks about the breakdown of development on the film “Children of Blood and Bone.” Back in 2017, the film rights to the novel “Children of Blood and Bone,” was purchased by Fox 2000. Then, when Disney bought Fox and Fox 2000 was dissolved, development on the film went to Lucasfilm, as Kathleen Kennedy apparently liked the idea of producing it under her company. Well, as we’ve seen with Lucasfilm projects over recent years, creative disagreements led to Lucasfilm getting rid of the rights and selling them to Paramount, where the film is now back on track.

So, after the issue with “Children of Blood and Bone,” it appears Lucasfilm is now soured on the idea of making new content and instead is focusing all of its energies on the aforementioned franchises. So, if you’re hoping for some Lucasfilm Originals anytime soon, you’re out of luck. Enjoy a million “Star Wars” TV series, that new “Willow” show, and whatever the hell is going on with “Indiana Jones.” Because that’s all you’re getting.
