For many feature filmmakers, music videos provide a sort of proving ground early in their careers. Folks like David Fincher and Spike Jonze really made a name for themselves in the realm of music videos before leaping into feature films. But for M. Night Shyamalan, he’s doing things a bit in reverse, as he makes the leap into music video direction for the new song, “The Sky Cries.”
As seen in the video for “The Sky Cries,” by artist Saleka, M. Night Shyamalan is the perfect choice to direct the clip due to its close connection to the filmmaker’s Apple TV+ series, “Servant.” For those fans of the supernatural, mystery thriller, “The Sky Cries” is a song that was featured in Episode 8 of Season 2 that just aired. And because of that, the video for the song is very much a continuation of the story and themes of the series.
In the video, Saleka plays a character called Vivian Dale, a ghostly figure that is seen moving around the house of the protagonists of the Apple TV+ thriller series. And because of the connection to the show, Shyamalan was able to integrate the production of the music video into the filming of Season 3 of the series.
“We actually shot this video right before we started Season 3, so it was a great way to kick things off for all of us,” said Shyamalan in a statement. “The ‘Servant’ crew who shot the video had such a good time seeing the house thru the new lens of Saleka as Vivian Dale.”
