Mackenzie Davis & Himesh Patel To Star In Post-Apocalyptic HBO Max Series 'Station Eleven'

When you think of post-apocalyptic TV series, there are likely two that come to mind — “The Walking Dead” and “The Leftovers.” While you can argue that the latter isn’t a prototypical post-apocalypse situation, the series does play with a lot of the same themes that are found in the genre, and actually shows that there is some quality, well-acted, well-written drama that can found in these sorts of series. Basically, just because you hear “post-apocalyptic,” doesn’t mean it’s going to be another “Walking Dead.” At least in the case of the new series “Station Eleven,” we sure hope it doesn’t.

According to Deadline, the upcoming HBO Max series has secured its two leads with Mackenzie Davis and Himesh Patel attached to star in the post-apocalyptic drama. “Station Eleven” is based on the novel of the same name by author Emily St. John Mandel and tells the story of a world that is trying to pick up the pieces after the Georgia Flu wipes out a large portion of the population. Davis is set to play Kirsten, a survivor of the plague and actress in community theater. Patel will portray Jeevan, a lost soul that turns into a reluctant leader in the new world.

Patel is probably best known for his recent role as the lead in Danny Boyle’s musical film, “Yesterday.” Davis, on the other hand, is no stranger to films and TV and was in last year’s “Tully,” as well as the upcoming horror film “The Turning” and the big-budget action film “Terminator: Dark Fate.” However, if you’re a fan of quality TV, then you’re likely familiar with her work on the critically-acclaimed AMC series “Halt and Catch Fire.”

Patrick Somerville, the creator of the Netflix series “Maniac,” is on board as the writer-producer-creator of “Station Eleven.” He’s joined by Executive Producer Hiro Murai, who will also direct the pilot episode. HBO Max hasn’t announced a release date for the series, but we know it’s still a ways off, as we don’t even know the exact launch date for the streaming service, yet.
