Well, this is a bit curious. Maggie Gyllenhaal has never really been a tentpole/blockbuster kind of gal, and aside from Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight," she's mostly stuck to the indie/drama route. But it seems blowing up the White House with Roland Emmerich is just too good an opportunity to pass up.
The actress has joined "White House Down" with Channing Tatum and probably Jamie Foxx, who is currently considering the role of the President. We're guessing that for Gyllenhaal, the fact that this isn't a standard and boring wife/girlfriend part attracted her to the action flick. She'll be playing a Secret Service agent who has to defend the President alongside Tatum when a paramilitary force attacks the White House. And we have to say, as much as Emmerich's films are generally empty exercises in shit blowing up, the idea of Gyllenhaal kicking some ass is a pretty awesome one.
This one is gearing up to shoot soon not only because Tatum's calendar is pretty busy these days and his window for making this is likey not that flexible, but also because it has a November 1, 2013 release date already slated. [Variety]
