‘Man Of Steel’ Star Henry Cavill To Fly In And Save ‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.’

Tom Cruise may have abruptly exited “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.,” the studio’s spy action thriller that Guy Ritchie will direct, but acting quickly, the studio has already found a would-be replacement. And while he’s far from a household name yet, the actor, British thespian Henry Cavill is set to play Superman in WB’s “Man Of Steel” this summer, and clearly the studio is feeling good about the film’s box-office chances and therefore by proxy, launching the actor near the A-list.

Variety reports that Cavill has entered talks with WB, and should he take the role he’ll star alongside a host of up-and-comers on the verge like Armie Hammer (“The Lone Ranger“) and Alicia Vikander (“Anna Karenina“). Cavill will take the Napolean Solo role that Cruise vacated, but the trade notes that the “Man of Steel” actor had initially been meeting about the sidekick-like role that Hammer eventually took. Cavill clearly has had a good relationship with Warner and the trade also notes that they had considered him for a co-starring role opposite Chris Hemsworth in “In the Heart of the Sea” that Ron Howard is directing.

Cavill’s biggest feature role to date, minus Superman, is Relativity Media‘s “Immortals” from 2011. Up until that point the actor was known for starring on “The Tudors.” Talking about leaping skyscrapers in a single bound….
