After recently appearing in Marvel Studios’ “Daredevil: Born Again,” actor Matthew Lillard (“Five Nights at Freddy’s 2”) has nabbed a mysterious supporting part in the DCU with James Gunn‘s “Superman” sequel, “Man of Tomorrow.”
The reunion revealed by Deadline isn’t entirely surprising, as Gunn was a screenwriter on the two live-action “Scooby-Doo” movies that saw the actor playing Shaggy, also voicing that beloved Hanna-Barbera character in a slew of animated projects.

He’ll join a cast that already features David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult, Lars Eidinger (Brainiac), Rachel Brosnahan, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), Nathon Fillion (Guy Gardner), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Adria Arjona (reportedly playing Maxima) and Aaron Pierre is back as John Stewart (a human member of the cosmic cop group Green Lantern Corps. and will be introduced in HBO Max‘s “Lanterns“).
Lillard’s other film credits over the years include “Trouble with the Curve,” “The Descendants,” “The Life of Chuck,” “Five Nights at Freddy’s,””SLC Punk!,” “Hackers,” “Thirteen Ghosts,” and the original “Scream.”
DC Studios‘ next big feature film outing will be “Supergirl,” which not only sees Milly Alcock (first introduced in “Superman” last year) leading her own solo film but has Jason Momoa (the former Aquaman actor) playing his dream role of alien bounty hunter biker Lobo (a solo movie had been in the works for ages before Gunn and Peter Safran took reins of the DC Comics franchise). Given the cosmic elements going on here with the sequel via Brainiac/Maxima, there is a slim possibility that Kara and Lobo could show up or cameo in the event pic.
Filming is already underway in Atlanta as Gunn is back as writer/director, with Warner Bros. setting the release date for “Man of Tomorrow” for July 9, 2027.
