Margaret Qualley and Christopher Abbott will star in the Zachary Wigon-directed thriller “Sanctuary,” which just finished shooting in New York, Variety reports.
Set in a hotel room over the course of a single night, “Sanctuary” centers on a dominatrix (Qualley) and her wealthy client Hal (Abbott), who is on the cusp of inheriting his father’s fortune and position. When he tries to cut ties with Qualley’s character, “disaster ensues.”
“Sanctuary” was written by “Homecoming” co-creator Micah Bloomberg and produced by David Lancaster and Stephanie Wilcox of Rumble Films (“Whiplash,” “Nightcrawler”), while Ilya Stewart of Hype Film and Pavel Burian of Mosaic Films are co-producing along with Charades, which is handling international sales rights. UTA Independent Film Group is overseeing the U.S. sale and arranged the financing for the film.
Wigon previously wrote directed the feature “The Heart Machine,” which debuted at SXSW in 2014 and garnered a nomination for the Grand Jury Award for Narrative Feature at the festival. He is also a credited writer on an episode of “Homecoming” Season 2.

Abbott was recently cast in Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things” opposite Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, Mark Ruffalo, and Ramy Youssef. He last starred in Mona Fastvold’s “The World to Come,” which was released by Bleecker Street in February, and in Jerrod Carmichael’s “On the Count of Three,” which was acquired by Annapurna Pictures for release via MGM’s Orion Pictures out of this year’s Sundance.
Qualley, who had a memorable turn as a young Mansonite in Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” will next star opposite her real-life mother, Andie MacDowell, in John Wells’ Netflix limited series “Maid,” which is slated to premiere on Oct. 1. She’s also set to star alongside Taron Egerton in the romantic thriller “Stars at Noon” directed by Claire Denis, which is set to begin production soon.
