'Maid' Trailer: Margaret Qualley Stars In Netflix's Drama Series Arriving In October

For a while, it seemed that the memoir “Maid,” by author Stephanie Land, was one of the hottest books around. And when you have that sort of buzz, it’s only a matter of time until we see it get adapted into a film or TV series, right?

Enter Netflix and the new series, “Maid,” which adapts Land’s memoir into a new drama series about a young single mother who is doing anything she can to survive after leaving an abusive relationship. “Maid” stars Margaret Qualley in the lead role, alongside Nick Robinson, Anika Noni Rose, Tracy Vilar, Billy Burke, and Andie MacDowell. The series is showrun by writer-producer Molly Smith Metzler, who is probably best known for her work on series such as “Shameless” and “Orange is the New Black.”

“When writers look to adapt material for the screen, we look for a hero. Someone who fights like hell, against all odds, to reach a goal. It’s usually a title reserved for superheroes,” showrunner Molly Smith Metzler explains. “But I found a hero in Stephanie Land’s memoir, ‘Maid.’ A riveting account of a single mother who leaves an abusive relationship and finds herself broke and homeless, ‘Maid’ is a story about back-breaking hard work and the power of a mother’s love. Our heroine in the series, Alex Russell (played by the incredible Margaret Qualley) is determined to give her daughter a better life while free-falling through a broken welfare system and cleaning houses for minimum wage. Told entirely through Alex’s unfiltered and often funny POV, you’re with this inspiring underdog for every moment. Every humiliation, heartbreak, triumph, and toilet brush.”
