Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn Spin-Off 'Birds Of Prey' Officially Receives A 2020 Release Date

As far as the future of DC Films, we know we’re getting “Aquaman” later this year and “Shazam!” early 2019. However, past that, there’s not much that’s officially confirmed. Todd Phillips (and various other set photos) shows us that believe it or not, Joaquin Phoenix is really going to make ‘Joker.’ And now, we know for sure that Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn is coming back in “Birds of Prey,” as the film finds itself an interesting release date.

According to The Wrap, “Birds of Prey” will hit theaters on February 7, 2020. The film is set to star Margot Robbie along with whoever they narrow the list of actresses down from as a group of female crime fighters that take on the villain known as the Black Mask. The film is directed by indie filmmaker Cathy Yan, who is best known for her work on the recent film “Dead Pigs.” Christina Hodson has been writing the script for a while now. She’s best known for her work on the upcoming “Bumblebee” film.

February is turning into a prime window of release for tentpole films. Starting with the surprise success of “The LEGO Movie” back in 2014, the winter month has proven to be fertile ground for big-budget blockbusters hoping to avoid the logjam in the summer season. “Deadpool” proved that superhero films can earn crazy money in February, and this year, “Black Panther” showed the world that records can be broken, even though kids are still in school.

Next year, the month gets tested yet again, with “X-Men: Dark Phoenix.” However, let’s be real, no one is expecting that film to do gangbusters, unless Simon Kinberg is able to shock the world.

So, can “Birds of Prey” do it too? The odds seem great. Margot Robbie’s star has only gotten brighter since Harley Quinn’s debut in “Suicide Squad.” Plus, with the addition of Black Canary, Huntress, and Batgirl (the Cassandra Cain version), there’s a lot of fan-favorite heroes that will be making the jump to the big screen.

The report also says that casting is ongoing, with screen tests happening this week. So, it’s likely we can expect some more announcements in the coming weeks.
