Got a Tip?

Margot Robbie Is Constantly “Pestering” WB/DC To Add A Harley Quinn/Poison Ivy Romance

Clark Kent and Lois Lane. Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson. Tony Stark and Pepper Potts. Batman and…Alfred? The world of superheroes is filled with iconic love affairs. However, one of the more under-the-radar, fan-favorite pairings that have existed in the comics and on TV but have yet to grace live-action is the relationship between Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy. The duo is a fairly recent addition to the hallowed halls of comic book romance, but fans absolutely adore the pairing of the two sometimes-villains in the DC universe. And if Margot Robbie has anything to say about it, that relationship will eventually show up on the big screen.

In an interview with Den of Geek, Margot Robbie, who stars as Harley Quinn in “Suicide Squad,” “Birds of Prey,” and the forthcoming film, “The Suicide Squad,” mentioned how much she bugs Warner Bros. and DC Films about bringing Poison Ivy to the big screen.

“Trust me, I chew their ear off about it all the time,” said Robbie about Poison Ivy showing up in the DCEU. “They must be sick of hearing it, but I’m like, ‘Poison Ivy, Poison Ivy. Come on, let’s do it.’ I’m very keen to see a Harley-Poison Ivy relationship on screen. It’d be so fun. So I’ll keep pestering them. Don’t worry.”

The love between Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy is surprisingly cute and sweet when you consider both characters have a penchant for killing people. Harley, who is often seen with Joker, is the wild, expressive, outgoing half of the pairing opposite Ivy, who is shown to be more reserved but also sweet when she’s around her bestie/love.

With Joker going through all sorts of changes in the film world, as Jared Leto’s version seems to be all but gone, and Joaquin Phoenix’s Oscar-winning performance is in a film that doesn’t even crossover with Robbie’s universe, if you want to give Harley a lover, Poison Ivy is the clear choice. Not to mention the fact that it would add an LGBTQ aspect to the characters, which is an established part of the comic book lore but has yet to be explored on the big screen.

Even though James Gunn has teased that any of the characters in “The Suicide Squad” could die by the end of his film, it’s unlikely Harley Quinn will be deceased, as Margot Robbie is one of the brightest spots in the checkered history of the DCEU. So, it’s really only a matter of when we’ll see Harley in a film next. Perhaps “Birds of Prey 2” could showcase Poison Ivy? Or just a Harley solo film? We shall see.
