If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right? That’s the mantra that both Mark Wahlberg and filmmaker Peter Berg must follow, apparently. The duo has collaborated on four previous films, with number four being “Mile 22,” which comes out later this year. Well, it appears that Wahlberg and Berg are attached at the hip because they have collab #5 on deck.
According to Variety, the two guys are working on a new film together for Netflix, titled “Wonderland,” with Wahlberg to star and Berg to direct, respectively. However, instead of basing their film on a real-life tragedy, as they did with “Deepwater Horizon,” “Patriot’s Day,” and “Lone Survivor,” the duo are going with a fictional story for their new film.

“Wonderland” is based on the novel by Robert B. Parker, and is part of the “Spenser” series, that follows a private eye based in Boston (duh) who gets sucked into the criminal underworld and conspiracy. This is yet another way for Wahlberg to employ his patented Bostonian accent that everyone knows and loves.
This is a huge win for Netflix as they continue to snatch up high profile projects with big-name talent attached. And if this becomes a huge win for the streaming service, then there’s also good news! The Spenser series of novels spans almost 50 works, so there could be much, much more Berg/Wahlberg (they’d have a horrible celebrity relationship name, btw) in the future.
In the meantime, Mark Wahlberg has recently finished filming the comedy “Instant Family” and has the long-in-development “Six Billion Dollar Man” maybe still percolating. He also has a couple projects planned with Mel Gibson. Yeah, he’s a busy guy.
No word on a release date, but with “Mile 22” coming later in August, it seems like this might be next for Berg.
