Mark Wahlberg took time out of promoting his upcoming film, “Max Payne” to discuss his role as the emotional tortured father in the adaptation of Alice Sebold’s novel “The Lovely Bones,” a project we haven’t heard anything about in recent months.
Wahlberg plays the father of a 14 year-old girl who is brutally rapped and murdered, who continues to watch her family from heaven as the deal with her loss.
Update: However, in an article written on October 9 by Anne Thompson, the Variety scribe said “Lovely Bones,” was one of the films that was left up in the air with the whole Dreamworks/Paramount split.
“One of the most prominent talents caught in the middle of the confusion is Peter Jackson, who pacted to do his $65 million adaptation of Alice Sebold’s “The Lovely Bones” for DreamWorks following a heated auction. Now, DreamWorks is leaving his movie behind, one of the many abandoned children in the messy divorce from Paramount. Jackson screened his cut of the movie, which is set for release in late 2009, for Paramount last week. They’re in charge of it now.”
What does that mean for ‘Lovely Bones’? Maybe nothing. Jackson’s manager thinks all will go according to plan. “The separation of Paramount and DreamWorks notwithstanding, our impression is that the transition as it relates to ‘The Lovely Bones’ will be a smooth one,” he said. It’s a interesting article and tracks a lot of potential problems for films co-produced before the split and is definitely worth a read. Keep an eye on the developments for ‘Lovely Bones’ though, we’re sure Jackson would rather be with his boy Spielberg over at their new DreamWorks/Universal home.
