Got a Tip?

Marvel Studios Dates Six Mystery Films For 2021 And 2022

If you’re a fan of the Marvel Studios and their Marvel Cinematic Universe, there are really two questions you’re probably thinking about, right now. First, who’s dying in “Avengers: Infinity War?” Second, and probably most important, what the hell is going to happen after Phase 3 ends? While we can’t answer the first one (but let’s be real, Tony Stark and/or Captain America are toast, right?), the answer to “what’s next?” seems to be taking shape.

We know only the bare minimum about Phase 4, or whatever it will be called, already. The sequel to “Spider-Man: Homecoming” has been announced to be released July 19, 2019, and there’s a third “Guardians of the Galaxy” film coming out in 2020. Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, we know that the Marvel Studios train is going full steam ahead with six more films planned for 2021 and 2022.

In typical Marvel Studios fashion, we have zero clue what those films could actually be, but it does signal that the MCU will remain alive and well post-“Avengers 4,” and there will be plenty more superheroes in the theaters. Considering the first dates are only a mere three years away, the announcements for these films should be coming shortly. Best guess, we’ll get a deluge of Marvel Studios information after “Avengers: Infinity War” is released in April.

If we had to put money on what films movie-goers could expect, there are some obvious choices. Clearly, with the massive success of “Black Panther,” you have to imagine that “Black Panther 2” isn’t just a guarantee, but will also be the new leader of the MCU pack. Expect that film in 2021. After that, there’s the much-rumored, and fan-desired, “Black Widow” solo film, which would be another lock for 2021.

Of course, Marvel Studios also likes to give themselves a bit of wiggle room for unexpected hits. So, if 2019’s “Captain Marvel” is as big of a hit as they’re anticipating, expect the sequel to that film to be another cornerstone of the new MCU. And let’s not forget the “Avengers” franchise, which is almost certainly going to keep going after the fourth film in 2019. With a few educated guesses, that gives us insight into at least four of the six films.

Those other two films? Anyone’s guess, at this point. Maybe they’re saving space for Wolverine and the rest of the mutants.
