Marvel Studios is taking big risks with their new wave of Disney+ shows. Unlike the ABC, Hulu, and Netflix Marvel series (that now have been effectively rendered non-canon), their new shows will be directly tied into the film side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (the TV shows would always reference the MCU, but were rarely if ever reciprocated from Kevin Feige‘s corner of the hard-canon MCU). The new shows will have a direct impact on the plots of future films. “Secret Invasion” is one of many in the works, and we finally know who will be behind the camera on the show as the studio has selected Thomas Bezucha and Ali Selim to direct episodes, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Bezucha was behind the revenge flick “Let Him Go” with Kevin Costner, and Selim worked on Hulu’s “The Looming Tower.”

“Secret Invasion” is described by Marvel as an “event” and is understandable as the comic book source material saw many heroes revealed to be the shape-shifting aliens known as the Skrulls; audiences previously saw them in “Captain Marvel” and “Spider-Man: Far From Home.”

Filming is said to begin this fall in the United Kingdom and Europe with a fantastic cast that already has existing MCU actors such as Samuel L. Jackson leading as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn as Skrull leader Talos, with more expected to be announced given the event status of the show and it’s proximity to the filming of Nia DaCosta‘s “The Marvels” New cast additions for the Disney+ series are Oscar-winner Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke, Kingsley Ben-Adir, and Irish actor Killian Scott.
Given when the show is said to begin shooting, “Secret Invasion” is likely going to debut on Disney+ in late 2022. Here’s the trailer for Bezucha’s aforementioned”Let Him Go” starring Kevin Costner and Diane Lane.
