Here’s a surprise for you, on a Friday afternoon — Matthew Vaughn has another comic book film that he’d love to make! Shocking, right? However, considering his previous superhero films tend to lean more on the adult side of things, you may be taken aback to learn that the filmmaker is most interested in what might be the most wholesome Marvel property of them all — “Fantastic Four.”
While speaking to Comicbook.com at New York Comic-Con, Vaughn was asked about the possibility of working with Marvel Studios on a project (he’s always talking about comic book films, to be fair). His response about which film he’d like to tackle was made very clear. Matthew Vaughn wants to take a stab at Marvel’s First Family, the Fantastic Four.

“Yeah I’ve always loved the idea of doing ‘Fantastic Four’ as it was originally written,” Vaughn said. “I mean it’s one of my favorite comics and I actually think that ‘Fantastic Four,’ as a nice piece of IP, is in theory as big as ‘Spider-Man.’”
He continued, “I think those, the values of Fantastic Four and Spider-Man, I think those are the reason, if you’re a kid, you can imagine being a part of the Fantastic Four family and you can imagine being Peter Parker. So yeah, I think ‘Fan-Four’ would be the one that would excite me the most.”
Vaughn, of course, has plenty of history with comic book films. Arguably his most popular films, “Kick-Ass,” “X-Men: First Class,” and the three ‘Kingsman’ movies are all based on established comic book IP. And in addition to those films, his name has always been in the mix when talking about whatever DC comics superhero films Warner Bros. is cooking up.
Whether or not Vaughn is even on the list of possible directors for the upcoming “Fantastic Four” reboot is only known to Kevin Feige and the folks at Marvel Studios, at this point. However, we do know that Marvel is working on the film, but there’s no clear idea if it will come in 2 years or 10 years.
