If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. With “Bridesmaids” arriving in theaters on May 13th last year and becoming one of the biggest comedies of 2011, and suprisingly, an awards season player, Universal isn’t rocking the boat with the next big Melissa McCarthy comedy.
The studio has dated “Identity Thief” (previously known as “Identity Theft“) with nearly the exact same date — May 10, 2013. Produced by and co-starring Jason Bateman, with “Horrible Bosses” helmer Seth Gordon behind the camera, and a script from Steve Conrad (“The Pursuit Of Happyness,” “The Weather Man“) and Craig Mazin (“The Hangover Part II“), all we know for now is that the movie centers a man whose identity is stolen by a woman. A pretty solid premise, and we can’t wait to see where it will go.
The Oscar nominee will have to wrap up her work on the demeaning “Mike & Molly” on CBS before this starts rolling, but with a date now lined up, this movie will go right to the top of McCarthy’s busy slate. The movie will have major competition that weekend as Guillermo Del Toro‘s “Pacific Rim” will also be storming the multiplex. [BoxOfficeMojo]
