Over the weekend, Leonardo DiCaprio raised some eyebrows when he told press overseas that he was planning to take a "long, long break" from acting, and focus on his environmental work. And it appears he's not the only actor who is going to take a little break.
Mia Farrow hit Twitter yesterday to reveal her retirement from acting for an indeterminate period of time, tweeting: “Like my colleague Leonardo DiCaprio I too will be retiring from acting indefinitely.” Obviously, the news didn't make as much of a wave as Leo's announcement, mostly because he's simply one of the biggest movie stars in the world with two highly-anticipated anticipated movies coming this year: Baz Luhrmann's “The Great Gatsby” and Martin Scorsese's "The Wolf Of Wall Street." His absence will actually leave a noticeable void in modern cinema. We're not saying that we’d already assumed Farrow had retired, but for many cinemagoers, she hasn't exactly been a Chastain-like presence in the last few years.
Farrow’s most recent film appearance was in Todd Solondz’s 2011 effort “Dark Horse,” and she also had a memorable supporting role in the 2006 remake of “The Omen” as a nanny-from-hell. It seems that whatever she does, the lovely Ms. Farrow excels, but as of late she has been more focused on her gig as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and her activist work, than on chasing down new acting gigs.
From the title role in “Rosemary’s Baby,” to playing Daisy Buchanan in “The Great Gatsby” before Carey Mulligan came along, and collaborating with Woody Allen on such classics of the filmmaker’s career as “Hannah and Her Sisters,” Farrow has left an indelible mark on the face of cinematic history. So, we hope she isn't gone too long and decides to grace us with her presence in film again. [via Awards Daily]
