It feels like it was a lifetime ago already, but it’s only been roughly three weeks since it was announced that “Mission: Impossible 7” had halted production due to the coronavirus outbreak in Italy. At the time, the announcement was shocking, as no other major films or TV productions had been affected by the pandemic. Now, three weeks later, almost every film and TV production have ceased filming. Well, leave it to Tom Cruise and “Mission: Impossible” to begin working again when everyone else is being cautious.

According to new set photos from the Daily Mail (the photos won’t be shared here, as they’re just set photos and not very interesting by themselves), it appears that Cruise and the “Mission: Impossible” crew have resumed production. However, they’re no longer in Italy and have instead moved to the UK to do some stunt driving work. And you better believe that Cruise was there to do some of that work himself.
Obviously, the filming of “Mission: Impossible 7” can be seen as a hopeful sign that things could be getting back to normal sooner rather than later. However, it’s hard to tell if any other studios or major productions will begin to follow suit. The pandemic is still wreaking havoc around the world, infecting numerous actors and Hollywood folks. So, it may just be that Cruise’s production is an isolated anomaly and not a sign that things are returning to normal, just yet.

That being said, it is nice to see at least one major film begin to work again. You just have to hope that everyone is taking the proper health safety measures and this won’t turn into an unfortunate incident where the illness spreads amongst the cast and crew.
“Mission: Impossible 7” is once again written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie and is the first of two sequels that will be shooting back-to-back. As of now, the release date for the new film is July 23, 2021.
