Tom Cruise Is Back In Action-Packed New 'Mission Impossible: Fallout' Trailer

The most surprisingly durable blockbuster franchise this side of “Fast and Furious” returns with “Mission: Impossible – Fallout,” the sixth installment in the globe-spanning action series that continues to see Tom Cruise put himself in mortal danger for our amusement. Sure enough, the actor may have outdone himself this time when it comes to death-defying stunts, having reportedly learned to pilot a helicopter solo for the sake of one sequence and parachuted out of a plane for another. Add to that the broken ankle he suffered while jumping a ledge last year and you have to worry about what he might try for film number seven.

The franchise has its first ever returning director in the form of “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” helmsman Christopher McQuarrie, who also wrote the script and promises a darker, more personal arc this time for famed spy Ethan Hunt. “Unlike other Missions where Ethan knows he is right, this time he prays he is wrong,” McQuarrie says. “The fallout of these events ultimately brings him face to face with his deepest fears.”

Henry Cavill, along with his already notorious mustache, enters the fray playing August Walker, a CIA agent whose relationship with Hunt is a source of tension. “Each man disapproves of the other man’s methods. Each views the other as the problem rather than the solution,” McQuarrie reports. “It is a relationship built on mutual distrust, which escalates throughout the film until it finally comes to a head.” Here’s the official synopsis:

The best intentions often come back to haunt you. MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – FALLOUT finds Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team, along with some familiar allies in a race against time after a mission gone wrong. Henry Cavill, Angela Bassett, and Vanessa Kirby also join the dynamic cast with filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie returning to the helm.

The film stars Cruise, Cavill, Rebecca Ferguson, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Michelle Monaghan, Angela Bassett and Alec Baldwin. ‘Fallout’ arrives in cinemas on July 27th.
