Yep, it’s yet another story on the supposedly still happening “Arrested Development” movie, which by the time it goes in front of cameras, George-Michael Bluth will be 40 years old and the audience that first fell in love with the show will be getting ready to retire.
Anyway, speaking at the Television Critics Awards (yes, this is an actual thing), when asked — again — about the forthcoming film, series creator Mitch Hurwitz revealed, “Were writing it; we’re halfway through. The reason I’ve been so cagey is fans have been so [eager about it]. I really want to do it. [Jason] Bateman gave an interesting quote saying when we get it, well, we’ll decide if we want to do it [gives ‘really?’ look].”
“It’s not going to be a big money maker,” Hurwitz added. “It’s going to be fun, like a family reunion. The only stumbling block could be scheduling. Everybody wants to play together.”
We’re not really sure when studios were in the business of backing nostalgia projects that don’t make any money, but hey, if Hurwitz is writing he’s got the kind of faith in this thing that we’re no longer holding out hope for. And clearly, everyone involved in the show is now busy on about 1,500 different projects so it will be nothing short of a scheduling miracle to get everybody in the same place for a few consecutive weeks.
