Nostalgia is riding high these days in Hollywood, not just in the blockbuster-tentpole world, but also in the awards race — the last two Best Picture awards winners were feel-good period pieces that struck gold with Academy voters. Now, with “Hitchcock” getting some Oscar buzz — more new images from the Sacha Gervasi-helmed film are below — the team behind the biopic has decided to tackle the life of another pop culture figure, Johnny Carson.
“Hitchcock” producer Tom Thayer has gotten the approval of the Carson estate and the rights to Bill Zehme’s upcoming “Carson The Magnificent: An Intimate Portrait” and has the writer of the Gervasi film, John McLaughlin (“Black Swan”), penning the script. It’s surprising that it’s taken this long for a Carson biopic to materialize, but we’re guessing getting his estate involved was key. Once McLaughlin’s script is finished, Thayer will be shopping it around to potential buyers at the end of the year.
“Hitchcock” hits theaters next Thanksgiving weekend on November 23rd. In the meantime, check out new images of Anthony Hopkins, Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Biel and Helen Mirren below.[Deadline/Movies.com/Just Jared]
