Man, so awful. According to CNN, actor Morgan Freeman has been hospitalized following a car wreck. He was involved in a car accident Sunday night in Memphis and apparently he’s in “serious condition.” Who doesn’t love, love Morgan Freeman, seriously? Godspeed. Hopefully, he’ll be ok. Freeman is 71 years old. “They had to use the jaws of life to extract him from the vehicle,” Clay McFerrin, editor of Sun Sentinel in Charleston, Mississippi, said. “He was lucid, conscious. He was talking, joking with some of the rescue workers at one point.” That does sound promising. Reuters says he was “badly injured.”
Update: CNN is now saying he does not face “life-threatening” injuries and he’s resting with some fractures. “Nothing permanent,” a friend told a local newspaper. “He’s in good spirits, but he’s in some pain.” Whew. [CNN]
Update 2: He suffered a broken shoulder and a broken arm in the accident and elected to have surgery immediately on his arm afterwards. Freeman’s obviously been well-loved by many for decades going back to his appearances in “The Electric Company,” but he’s gained a new devoted army of fans in “The Dark Knight” obsessives. Those people can send him well-wishes here. Remember, he’s a classy man, no silly Joker dolls or stupid shit like that.
