We are fast approaching three years since we’ve seen Ryan Gosling on the big screen. Though the actor has never been one to release films at a really fast clip, it appears that’s about to change over the next few years, as he has a number of high-profile films lined up, including the recently-announced “The Actor.” And it’s that film that is making news, as “The Actor” has found distribution through NEON.

According to NEON, the indie studio that has been making waves thanks to popular releases like “Parasite” and “Portrait of a Lady on Fire” has picked up the North American distribution rights to “The Actor” from director Duke Johnson and star Ryan Gosling. The film follows the story of an amnesiac man in 1950s Ohio that wakes up with no memory of who he is. He then attempts to find his way back to New York to figure out what he has lost. “The Actor” is based on the best-selling novel, “Memory,” by Donald E. Westlake.
Duke Johnson is probably best known as the co-director of the film, “Anomalisa.” And for “The Actor,” he’s reteaming with Charlie Kaufman, who is on board as an executive producer on the new feature. Johnson co-wrote the script for “The Actor” alongside Stephen Cooney.
As mentioned, Gosling is set to star in the film, but this is far from the only project he has on his busy slate. He’s also set to star in a remake of “The Wolfman” from Blumhouse and filmmaker Leigh Whannell. Gosling will also star opposite Chris Evans in the Russo Brothers’ next film, the big-budget Netflix feature “The Gray Man.” Oh let’s not forget that he’s also set to star in Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s sci-fi feature, “Project Hail Mary.” And finally, it was recently announced that Gosling will star as a stuntman in a new film by writer Drew Pearce and director David Leitch. Needless to say, the world will have quite a bit of Ryan Gosling on the big screen in the years to come.
NEON has yet to reveal a release date or production start date for “The Actor.”
Here’s the film’s synopsis:
