Saying that the status of the much-anticipated “The New Mutants” has been a bit scattered can be likened to a few familiar parallels. Some might say it’s like Cyclops minus his visor or sunglasses. Others would describe it like Wolverine in one of his fits of rage. Hell, maybe it’s like Kitty Pryde? You never know what she might walk into next! Anyway, this new project is not about telling more of their stories. It’s about introducing the next crop and how they make their mark. Not that getting to this point hasn’t been without a few super headaches.

There was confusion about the picture’s direction: more like a YA novel or a focus on horror. The success of “It” answered that question, much to the approval of the director and co-writer Josh Boone who initially visualized it as such.
Its release was pushed back to steer clear of other Marvel blockbusters like “Deadpool 2” in May of 2018 and “X-Men: Dark Phoenix” in June of last year. In turn, these reschedulings affected reshoots planned for the film. Speaking of reshoots, too much time had elapsed since photography began on the project, so they were ultimately scrapped. Additionally, Disney’s purchase of 21st Century Fox stopped production in its tracks, and their initial lack of enthusiasm for the movie’s original cut didn’t help things either.
