Fans Of ‘The New Mutants’ Rejoice, There May Be A New Trailer Arriving In January

Remember “The New Mutants”? That “X-Men” spin-off that was supposed to come out last year before being pushed into oblivion? After collecting dust in the Disney/Fox vault, it appears we may finally see some new footage.

The movie went through several big changes in tone and focus, going from a YA story into a “full-fledged horror movie” in 2017, when we got a look at the first trailer. There were even talks of this movie spanning a trilogy of films, and then it never happened. First it was delayed for reshoots in order to push the film for a PG-13 rating, then it was delayed again and again, as the extensive reshoots continued, before they started considering going back to an R-rating, but then the Fox-Disney merger put all plans on hold. Last we heard, they were aiming for an April, 2020 release. But we finally have some news… potentially.

While on an unrelated Instagram post, director Josh Boone answered a fan question about when we could expect a new trailer. Boone’s response (as seen in the screencap below) was a simple “January.” This is as close to an official announcement as we’ve got in months, and it seems oddly appropriate for this crazy movie to have big announcements happen this randomly.

Additionally, illustrator for the “New Mutants” comicbook, Bill Sienkiewicz appeared on the Fatman Beyond podcast with Kevin Smith this past weekend and confirmed he’s seen a work-in-progress trailer that Boone showed him.

“I don’t know if I’m even allowed to mention any of this, but I will say that The New Mutants film, if you’ve heard anything about it the last couple years… two days ago, I heard from Josh Boone, the director. And he sent me a new trailer. They’ve been working on it, and it is phenomenal. I got chills. It looks like, because of the whole Disney-Fox merger, takeover, whatever… it’s got the blessings of Marvel. And it feels more Marvel in terms of what they’re doing, but also the horror elements of the film are in place.”

Well, if they can make a “Joker” movie, they certainly should be able to release “The New Mutants.”
