'Deadpool' Director Tim Miller Confirms His Kitty Pryde-Focused 'X-Men' Spin-Off Film Is Officially Dead

It’s clear from the filmmaker’s first two features, Tim Miller is a fanboy. And that’s not to besmirch the director’s good name, either. But as seen in “Deadpool” and the recently released “Terminator: Dark Fate,” Miller is very much a fan of pop culture icons and isn’t afraid to bring them to the big screen. But it appears that one of his comic book projects that were announced back in 2018, a solo “Kitty Pryde” film, isn’t going to actually come to fruition. And he’s pretty bummed about it.

Speaking to Comicbook.com, Miller was asked about the possibility of working with Marvel Studios on a future ‘X-Men’ film, now that Disney has control of the Fox Marvel properties. The filmmaker shared his love of the mutants but doesn’t expect to get a call from Kevin Feige anytime soon. And in fact, he talks about how his “Kitty Pryde” film is officially dead.

“I love the X-Men,” said Miller. “I don’t expect Marvel to call me and say, ‘Come do the X-Men,’ so I’m not waiting for that. I was really excited about my Kitty Pryde movie. Fuck, I love that movie. It’ll never happen now.”

Now, it would be disingenuous for us to say that we’re surprised that Miller’s film focused on the young X-person, Kitty Pryde, isn’t moving forward. The film was announced before this year’s merger of Disney and Fox and, as if that wasn’t enough reason for the film to be aborted, the incredibly poor box office showing of “Dark Phoenix” pretty much put the final nail in the coffin for every ‘X-Men’ film that was in development that didn’t have the name “Deadpool” in the title.

Sadly, we don’t know exactly what Miller might have had in store with his Pryde film. Shortly after it was announced, the working title of “143” was given to the project, alluding to a very famous Christmas issue of “Uncanny X-Men” focused on Kitty. So, that story is what many fans assumed would serve as inspiration for the film.

As mentioned, Miller’s latest, “Terminator: Dark Fate” is in theaters now.
