Paramount Pictures is all in on “A Quiet Place” as one of their continuing franchises, as the first two movies focused on the Abbott family’s harrowing survival (thanks to sign language and their deaf daughter preparing them for silent communication) after aliens have wiped out a bunch of the human population as they’re attracted to sound and kill anyone that makes too much noise by making their presence aware to the deadly threat. A third feature film, “A Quiet Place: Day One,” arrives in theaters on June 28, and Paramount has released a new trailer (see below) promoting their prequel spinoff that features a new wave of characters played by Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o (“Black Panther”), Joseph Quinn (“Stranger Things“), and Alex Wolff (“Pig“).
The film’s story was hatched by franchise creator John Krasinski and director Michael Sarnoski (“Pig”), with the latter tackling the final screenplay. You might remember that Sarnoski replaced Jeff Nichols (“The Bikeriders“), who was initially attached to direct the pic before exiting.
Instead of a rural setting like seen with the Abbott family, we’ll see what the disastrous invasion looked like in major populated cities in America like New York City and how this new group of humans is able to survive there.
Djimon Hounsou is the current connective tissue between the movies as he reprises his role from “A Quite Place: Part II,” where he played the Man on the Island, the leader of an island colony of survivors.
Krasinski previously helmed and co-wrote the last two feature films with Bryan Woods and Scott Beck. He could be involved with more stories if “A Quiet Place: Day One” makes a big enough impact on audiences like the previous installments next month.
