‘Not Alone’ Teaser Trailer: Illumination’s Sci-Fi Romance Flick Stars Timothée Chalamet & Selena Gomez As Humans That Discover Adorable Aliens

We’re tickled to see that Illumination is making an original sci-fi animated film with “Not Alone,” which boasts a high-profile lead voice cast with Timothée Chalamet (“Dune” franchise) and Selena Gomez (“Hotel Transylvania” franchise) playing humans in the romance story that sees the pair discovering a group of adorable aliens (potentially being the next big thing after the studio gave the world the lovable goofballs, the Minions).

Chalamet and Gomez will have company with comedic actors Rob Brydon (“Barbie,” “The Trip”), Diane Morgan (“Cunk On,” “Mandy”), and Jamie Demetriou (“Cruella,” “Jay Kelly”) voicing the aliens Dunk, Welly, and Shirm. Others among the cast include Brett Goldstein (“Ted Lasso,” “Office Romance”) as Officer Zandro, with Oscar-winner Allison Janney (“Minions & Monsters,” “The Diplomat”) and Lamorne Morris (“Fargo,” “Spider-Noir”) also playing supporting characters.

An official logline for the new movie heading to theaters in 2027:

“When Joe and Fran are brought together to prepare for the inaugural launch of this revolutionary rocket, there are immediate sparks, but neither is particularly adept at romance. Life becomes more complicated when three aliens—tiny, unruly and adorable—take refuge in Joe’s home. Dunk, Welly, and Shirm are on the interplanetary run from a zealous-yet-inept officer of the law named Zandro. The aliens determine that Fran’s rocket could provide their means of getting back home to safety.”

Illumination also has its “Despicable Me” cinematic universe (“Minions & Monsters” now playing in theaters), being able to hold the attention of young/old moviegoers on par with Pixar and DreamWorks offerings. More recently, they’ve returned to the IP world and teamed with Nintendo to bring animated versions of their beloved video game characters, such as Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Princess Peach, Donkey Kong, and Fox McCloud, to the big screen. There is an expectation that a third “Super Mario Bros. Movie” installment is on the way, with other spinoffs in the works (we’ll keep our fingers crossed that “Donkey Kong,” “Star Fox” and “Metroid” movies are considered; Brie Larson has long been campaigning to play Samus and recently voiced Rosalina in “Galaxy”).
