Over the weekend, Curry Barker‘s horror hit “Obsession” has officially crossed the $400 million mark (surpassing other recent successful horror originals like Ryan Coogler‘s “Sinners“), and with that, the film’s star Inde Navarette might be telegraphing in a new interview about that exposure leading to some potential high-profile roles in gestating studio event features from talented filmmakers.
Speaking with Nylon Magazine, the actress revealed that she had recently met with dream directors Michael Mann (“Miami Vice”) and Jake Schreier (“Thunderbolts*”) without naming which specific roles or projects she was discussing with them. “Her list of dream directors is even longer: Ryan Coogler, Greta Gerwig, Michael Mann, and ‘Thunderbolts*‘ director Jake Schreier, the latter two of whom she’s met with recently,” the article reads.

We can make the assumption since Schreier is likely already in the very early casting process for his “X-Men” reboot at Marvel Studios (poised to film in the United Kingdom in the near future) and that a key mutant role could be in the cards for Nararette, as the hard-reboot is expected to court actors that younger audiences will recognize as the iconic mutant lineup for the live-action MCU iteration (she’d make a decent Rogue candidate, if we had to take a shot in the dark). Hiring someone from “Obsession” would be tapping into the current zeitgeist for on-the-rise talent, something sort of echoed by both Schreier and Kevin Feige when talking about the new take on “X-Men” with a “youth-focused” cast they’d be pursuing.
When it comes to Mann, we know that he’s gearing up and casting “Heat 2,” which is set to start shooting this fall as they’re said to be currently seeking a new actress to fill Ashley Judd’s shoes as Charlene Shiherlis, the young wife of Val Kilmer‘s thief and demolition expert character in the 1995 film that has Leonardo DiCaprio taking over that part in the sequel. Others among the film’s impressive lineup include Christian Bale, Stephen Graham, Adam Driver, and Jason Clarke.
Then again, meetings between actors and directors can also just be meetings and not exactly go anywhere. But in any case, we’ll certainly have to keep an eye out for her name when the female roles for “Heat 2” and “X-Men” are revealed, as the “Obsession” star has a bright future ahead regardless of whether she ultimately joins those big studio pics or not.
