For many actors in Hollywood, the ultimate goal is to become part of a successful franchise and milk it for everything its worth. So, for those actors who have been hired to portray heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s almost as if they hit the jackpot. With almost two dozen films, it seems like everything that Marvel Studios releases turns to gold. So, that’s why it’s such a surprise when one of those heroes doesn’t want their own spin-off.
For Elizabeth Olsen, who plays Wanda Maximoff, aka the Scarlet Witch, she’s one of the few Marvel heroes in the ‘Avengers’ shared universe that isn’t lobbying for her own solo film. In a new episode of “Everything Iconic with Danny Pellegrino,” Olsen shares why she doesn’t see a Scarlet Witch film in her future, and why that’s okay.

“We are at ground zero. …It’s definitely not something I’m pushing, and I don’t know if it’s something that [Marvel is] going to push either. Paul Bettany and I joked about having a domestic television show on Netflix or something, and it would just be like a house event where Scarlet Witch goes bananas. That’s what we joke about, but I don’t think any of those things are happening. But I’m happy that I’m still around and they still use me well – and that’s fine,” says the actress.
And for those that have seen the films, but not read the associated comic books, this is probably a no-brainer. The Scarlet Witch has never really been a standout in the films and doesn’t seem like an interesting enough character to warrant a separate film. However, for those who are familiar with Marvel lore, you know that Wanda is a character that has a deep history and could make for a very interesting film, especially if the Disney/Fox deal goes through and the X-Men are brought into the fold.
If the X-Men come to the MCU, Marvel Studios could explore more of Scarlet Witch’s origin, which is deeply tied to X-Men baddie Magneto, played by Michael Fassbender in the recent films. Long story short, Wanda is a mutant (much like the rest of the X-Men) and is the daughter of Magneto. However, when they introduced Wanda (and her brother Quicksilver) in “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” they eliminated the mutant aspect of her origin altogether.
In the podcast, Pellegrino and Olsen discuss this, and she talks about the possibility of if she believes the Scarlet Witch can be the character that links the X-Men to the Avengers.
“I don’t think so because we’ve gone so far to create a non-‘X-Men’ universe backstory for my character,” Olsen said. “And now it’s the reason I’m connected to Vision because the stone in his head is the stone that gave me my powers. So, we really leap into the stones.”
“So, I don’t think so, however, if there were a Michael Fassbender being my daddy crossover I would say, ‘Yes please,'” Olsen continued. “I would love to work with Fassbender.”
With the Disney/Fox deal not closing anytime soon, and the status of Scarlet Witch’s fate at the end of the upcoming two ‘Avengers’ films unknown, don’t count on the “Michael Fassbender Being My Daddy” film actually seeing the light of day. Though it does sound fun!
