Juliette Binoche & Catherine Deneuve Will Star In Hirokazu Kore-eda's Next Film

Juliette Binoche and Catherine Deneuve, two of the most iconoclastic French actresses working today, will collaborate on their very first feature together which will be helmed by Japanese filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda.

According to Allocine, Binoche had previously hinted that the project was coming to fruition and said that Kore-eda was inspired to write it after seeing Binoche’s work in “Clouds Of Sils Maria” which premiered at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival.

“Hirokazu Kore-eda saw ‘Sils Maria’ that was presented two years ago and it inspired him to write a script for Catherine Deneuve, Ethan Hawke, and myself,” said Binoche. “Catherine must play an actress and I will be her screenwriting daughter.”

So far, those are the only details we have on the plot and the film doesn’t even have a title yet. However, with those two actresses attached, we probably don’t need to know what it’s about, do we? We know that they will star together and truth-be-told, that’s all we really need to get excited about it. Of course, Hirokazu Kore-eda, whose previous work includes “After The Storm” and “Like Father, Like Son,” adds quite a bit of prestige to the project as well. Even if he hasn’t become a more established name, maybe this could be the one that introduces him to a wider audience given the star power of the acting talent.

While we eagerly wait in anticipation for the cameras to start rolling on this film, we still have other films from the talent involved to look forward to. Binoche has two upcoming films helmed by director Claire Denis. There’s the romantic dramedy “Let The Sun Shine In” and the ensemble science fiction drama “High Life” opposite Robert Pattinson. Kore-eda’s latest venture, the Japanese thriller “The Third Murder” should be released in the US sometime this year. Lastly, Deneuve has two French films currently in post-production, “Mauvaises Herbes” and “Le dernier vide-grenier de Claire Darling.”
