‘One Battle After Another’ Keeps Rolling Winning Best Film At The 2026 BAFTA Awards [Complete List]

After a ceremony that kicked off with host Alan Cumming suggesting everyone let out a “collective scream” at world events, the 2026 BAFTA Awards provided more surprises than usual. This despite ongoing trends in which the British Academy of Television and Film Association members have diverged from their North American guild and AMPAS peers over the past few years. The end of the evening went as expected, however, with Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another” taking Best Film.

The Warner Bros. release also saw Anderson win Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. The film won six BAFTAs overall, including Editing and a surprise win in Cinematography. After tonight, Anderson’s critically acclaimed comedic thriller appears to have a Best Picture Oscar win wrapped up. The results of the SAG Awards and PGA Awards this weekend may be the only way for other contenders to sway AMPAS voters.

The biggest surprises came in the acting categories, where Sean Penn won Supporting Actor over a crowded field, including “Sentimental Value’s” Stellan Skaragard, and his “One Battle After Another” co-star, Benicio del Toro, and Supporting Actress, where well-known UK talent Wunmi Mosaku won for her performance in “Sinners” over “One Battle’s” Teyana Taylor.

More surprises came in the form of heralded British indie, “I Swear,” which first saw Lauren Evans take the Casting award over fierce global competition. That film’s lead, Robert Aramayo, took the British Rising Star trophy, an award voted on by the public and, in a minor surprise, Best Actor over Timothee Chalamet, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Michael B. Jordan. This potentially leaves Wagner Moura, who wasn’t nominated by BAFTA, with a window to take the equivalent Oscar category.

“Sinners” also saw Ryan Coogler take his first BAFTA in the Original Screenplay category and Ludwig Göransson win his second for Original Score. Coogler became the first black man to win Original Screenplay, and with three trophies, “Sinners” became the most decorated film by a black director at the BAFTAs (a sad statistic).

As expected, Jessie Buckley won Lead Actress for “Hamnet,” which also won Best British Film.

“Frakenstein” dominated most of the below-the-line categories, winning Production Design, Costumes, and Makeup & Hair. “F1” took Sound, “Avatar: Fire and Ash” won Visual Effects,

No doubt disappointing many Brazilian fans, “Sentimental Value” won the Film Not In The English Language over “The Secret Agent.” That is a rare category at the BAFTAs that completely mirrors its Oscar counterpart.

“Zootopia 2” took Animated Feature (“KPop Demon Hunters” was not eligible, but they were on hand to sing “Golden”) and, in another mild surprise, “Mr. Nobody Against Putin” took Documentary over “The Perfect Neighbor.”

In short film categories with absolutely zero Oscars overlap, “This Is Endometriosis” won the Short Film Award, while the Short Animation honor was won by “Two Black Boys in Paradise.” “My Father’s Shadow” won Outstanding Debut for a British Writer, Director or Producer for Akinola Davies Jr and Wale Davies.

Presented by Prince William, the BAFTA Fellowship honor, inherently a lifetime achievement award, was handed to NBC Universal Chairwoman Donna Langley.
