Justin Lin recently made headlines for stepping away from “Fast X,” while already in production. While the reasons behind his unexpected departure from the “Fast & Furious” franchise have been discussed to death, the filmmaker has already lined up his next big project. It’s time for Justin Lin to ditch the cars and embrace superheroes with “One-Punch Man.”
According to Deadline, Justin Lin is set to direct a live-action adaptation of the incredibly popular Japanese manga, “One-Punch Man,” for Sony. As the title suggests, “One-Punch Man” tells the story of an incredibly powerful superhero who can defeat any enemy with only one punch. This leads to apathy and boredom on the part of the hero, as he begins his quest to find a villain worth his time. The script is set to be written by the duo of Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, the guys who penned “Venom” and “Jumanji: The Next Level.”
As mentioned, Lin recently left the production of “Fast X,” which freed up his time to take on this new feature. He’s probably best known for helming five of the previous ‘Fast’ films, beginning with ‘Tokyo Drift’ back in 2006. Lin previously took a break from ‘Fast’ films to direct the sci-fi franchise feature, “Star Trek Beyond.”
“One-Punch Man” is one of the most popular Japanese superhero franchises over the past decade. Beginning as a webcomic by the artist ONE, the story quickly became popular and was turned into a manga and eventually an anime series. The manga has been released all over the world and is hugely popular in the US, as well.
A release date for “One-Punch Man” has yet to be announced, but this is definitely a film that will garner a lot of attention until it hits theaters. You can watch a trailer for the anime below:
