'Oppenheimer' Opening Look Trailer: Take An Extended Peek At Christopher Nolan's Latest Before It Hits Theaters On July 21

Moviegoers are only eight days out now from the movie event of the summer: the “Barbie“/”Oppenheimer” double feature that’s possible after both films hit theaters on July 21. Is it “Barbienheimer”? “OppenBarbie”? Doesn’t matter: it’s likely either Greta Gerwig or Christopher Nolan‘s latest films will be crowned 2023’s Summer Movie by the time next weekend is over. So why not see both on the same day or at least during that same weekend?

To drum up further hype for their blockbuster, Universal has a new opening look trailer for “Oppenehimer.” Edited by the film’s editor Jennifer Lame, the five-minute extended look features new scenes from Nolan’s film as well as the movie’s score from Ludwig Göransson.

Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, Oppenheimer is an IMAX®-shot epic thriller that thrusts audiences into the pulse-pounding paradox of the enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it. 

Cillian Murphy stars as J. Robert Oppenheimer in the film, with Emily Blunt as his wife Katherine “Kitty” Oppenheimer.  Matt Damon plays General Leslie Groves Jr., director of the Manhattan Project, with Robert Downey Jr. as Lewis Strauss, a founding commissioner of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. “Oppenheimer” also stars Florence PughBenny SafdieMichael Angarano, and Josh Hartnett.  Rami Malek and Kenneth Branagh also work with Nolan again on this film. The film’s massive ensemble cast also includes Dane DeHaanDylan ArnoldDavid KrumholtzAlden EhrenreichMatthew Modine, and more.

Another thing to note: Nolan shot “Oppenheimer” on a combination of IMAX® 65mm and 65mm large-format film photography with cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema. That includes, for the first time, sections in IMAX® black and white analogue photography. So, best to see “Oppenheimer” on an IMAX® screen next week to watch Nolan’s film as it was intended.
