How far will a single mom go to keep her family out of debt? “Pain Hustlers” follows Liza Drake, a woman whose life is upended after losing her job. A chance meeting sets this mother on a path to prosperity, but everything comes at a high cost. This Netflix adaptation of Evan Hughes’ book hails from director David Yates — with a screenplay by Wells Tower. The film isn’t short on talent in front of the camera either; Emily Blunt and Chris Evans lead an impressive cast. Catherine O’Hara, Chloe Coleman, Jay Duplass, Brian d’Arcy James, Amit Shah, Aubrey Dollar, Willie Raysor, and Andy Garcia co-star.
The film’s official synopsis:
Liza Drake (Emily Blunt) is a blue-collar single mom who has just lost her job and is at the end of her rope. A chance meeting with pharmaceutical sales rep Pete Brenner (Chris Evans) puts her on an upward trajectory economically but dubious path ethically as she becomes entangled in a dangerous racketeering scheme. Dealing with her increasingly unhinged boss (Andy Garcia), the worsening medical condition of her daughter (Chloe Coleman), and a growing awareness of the devastation the company is causing forces Liza to examine her choices. Pain Hustlers is a sharp and revealing look at what some people do out of desperation, and others do out of greed. The film is directed by BAFTA award winner David Yates, produced by Lawrence Grey, and also stars Catherine O’Hara, Jay Duplass, and Brian d’Arcy James.
Emily Blunt, Mark Moran, Yvonne Walcott-Yates, Lewis Taylor, and Ben Everard are executive producers of “Pain Hustlers.” The film arrives in select theaters on October 20, debuting on Netflix on October 27. Watch the new trailer below.
