Got a Tip?

Paul Thomas Anderson To Direct SNL Cast Members In Untitled Largo Stage Play

According to Paul Thomas Anderson’s fansite, Cigarettesandredvines.com, the film auteur is taking a step outside of his familiar medium and moving into the field usually reserved for those who enjoy reading Ibsen in their oak paneled dens while wearing finely tailored smoking jackets, the theater. The “There Will Be Blood” filmmaker will be directing Saturday Night Live cast members Maya Rudolph (his wife) and Fred Armisen in a stage play he has co-written. The event is to premiere in Los Angeles at Largo on August 5th, but the name and subject of the play remain unannounced. Still, the project still has our interest and many others. In fact, if you plan on going and would like to write a review, drop us a line.

Anderson’s direction style and mise-en-scene seem could be difficult to adapt to the stage, and the only thing we known for certain is that the actors will surely be cast in a different light than in their patron show (most likely they will be dealing with some sort of parent-offspring schism and no cue-cards to stare off into space at). If you happen to be a dweller of the West Coast, and a glitch in Netflix has left you movieless, this is probably worth checking out.
