Peacock Announces 'Field Of Dreams' TV Series From Creator Of 'The Good Place'

Just recently, Major League Baseball played the “Field of Dreams” Game between the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees. The game was a celebration of classic baseball between two storied franchises and a homage to the 1989 sports drama starring Kevin Costner. And with the renewed interest in “Field of Dreams,” it appears Peacock is ready to capitalize on the idea with a new TV version of the iconic sports film.

Peacock announced that the streaming platform has given a straight-to-series order for a new TV reimagining of “Field of Dreams.” The 1989 film stars Costner as a farmer in Iowa that builds a baseball field in his cornfields and attracts the ghosts of classic MLB players. The film ended up nominated for multiple Oscars, including Best Picture.

And to help bring “Field of Dreams” to TV is none other than Michael Schur, who will executive produce and write the series. Schur is probably best known as a producer-writer on “The Office,” as well as a creator of series such as “The Good Place,” “Parks & Rec,” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” His most recent series, “Rutherford Falls,” has apparently been a hit for Peacock after its debut earlier this year.

“Through the years, ‘Field of Dreams’ has remained a fan favorite, maintaining its rightful position in the zeitgeist,” said Lisa Katz, President, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “It’s whimsical and grounded, a space where Mike Schur excels, and we’re looking forward to bringing a new version of this classic to Peacock.”

“’Field of Dreams’ is an iconic Universal Film title from venerable producers Lawrence and Charles Gordon that we could only have entrusted to Mike Schur,” added Erin Underhill, President, Universal Television. “His talent, his love for baseball, and his reverence for its themes make him the perfect choice to revisit this beloved film that evokes nostalgia and visceral emotion in so many of its fans.”

Here’s the synopsis:

Based on Universal Pictures’ Academy Award®-nominated film “Field of Dreams,” the series will reimagine the mixture of family, baseball, Iowa, and magic that makes the movie so enduring and beloved.

Obvious, it’s still far too early to know when “Field of Dreams” might debut on Peacock. However, with Shur attached and a straight-to-series order, it’s clear the streaming platform has high hopes for the series.
