Pedro Almodovar Adds Mexican Actor Jose Maria Yazpik To Upcoming Rom-Com 'Brief Lovers'

Pedro Almodovar thrilled audiences late last year with the twisted “The Skin I Live In” so we didn’t expect to hear from him so soon but earlier this year, his brother and regular collaborator Agustin Almodovar revealed on Spanish radio that they were plotting a “witty comedy, with very spicy dialogues and with a lot of fun and transgression” set for production this year. Whether Pedro liked it or not, his brother’s loose lips also noted that “Bad Education” and “Talk To Her” star Javier Camara was on board to star in the pic as well. All exciting stuff.

Variety now reports of another piece of casting for “The Brief Lovers,” as it’s been titled, with regular Diego Luna collaborator Jose Maria Yazpik set to star opposite Camara in what seems to be the helmer’s first out and out comedy since 1993’s “Kika.” The original report also added that the story was based on an Alice Munro novel of some sort but that was about as much as we got as far as plot or character details go.

We’ll surely hear more of this as things come together but lensing is set to begin this summer with Cannes 2013 (yeah, we’re getting ahead of ourselves) surely on the cards considering Almodovar’s relationship with the fest.
