Sometimes the characters you watch on screen are eerily similar to how you are in real life. It’s almost as if the director has somehow been spying on you. Well, I have yet to see Nicolas Cage’s upcoming film, “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent,” but I’m pretty sure Pedro Pascal’s character is based on me. (Kidding, obviously, but also kind of not.)
According to The Wrap, Pascal has signed on to star as Javi in the upcoming Cage film, “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.” In the film, Cage plays, well, Nicolas Cage, a well-known actor that is paid $1 million to show up at a superfan’s house, with the fan being played by Pascal. And when the shit hits the fan, Cage must use the skills learned throughout his famous acting career to save himself. Sure, I won’t pay $1 million for Nicolas Cage to show up at my house, but only because I don’t just have that kind of cash lying around. And as for the dark secrets that Javi apparently has, well, who doesn’t have secrets?
Jokes aside, “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated films coming in 2021 (or whenever it debuts). The ludicrous, but also incredible, plot of Nic Cage playing himself in a film where he has to somehow escape peril from a superfan sounds wonderful and just what the world needs right now. And considering Cage has been hitting it out of the park in recent films, notably “Mandy” and “Color Out of Space,” we have no doubt that he will continue his hot streak.
Pascal is a wonderful actor, as well. He’s probably best known for roles in “Game of Thrones” and Disney+’s massive hit, “The Mandalorian.” However, he’s also set to appear as one of the villains in the upcoming “Wonder Woman 1984.” So, it’s interesting that it would appear he’s playing some sort of villain once again in this new Cage film.
“The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” is set to be directed by Tom Gormican from a screenplay he wrote alongside Kevin Etten. The film is said to begin production sometime in the fall.
