Got a Tip?

Phoebe Waller-Bridge “Quite Likes The Idea Of Coming Back” To ‘Fleabag’…In More Than A Decade From Now

Before the Emmys were handed out recently, it was quite clear to everyone that Amazon’s award-winning series “Fleabag” was done. Writer-star-creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge never hid the fact that she struggled to come up with a second season, in the first place, and a potential third batch of episodes was highly unlikely. But then, after her multiple Emmy wins, the writer is starting to hint that maybe there is more “Fleabag” in the future…the very far future.

Speaking to Seth Meyers on his late-night talk show, Waller-Bridge was asked the million-dollar question (let’s be real, considering the amount of cash Amazon is spending on her, it’s more of a “tens-of-millions” of dollars question), would “Fleabag” ever return. And the answer was a resounding…sure, maybe, I don’t know.

“I quite like the idea of coming back to her, well, me, when I’m 50, because I feel like she would’ve had, you know, more life then, and God knows what she would’ve gotten up to,” Waller-Bridge said. “And actually seeing a character like that in a later stage of life, I think, is exciting.”

She added, “But I think for now, she’s been through enough. We’ve got to let her go!”

Obviously, with revivals of series from the ‘80s and ‘90s being the modus operandi of Hollywood studios in 2019, the idea that a 2019 series could get a revival in 2040 is not out of the question. The only real x-factor to the whole idea is Waller-Bridge, herself. Unlike other series, “Fleabag” begins and ends with its creator-star-writer. There’s no show without her involvement. And she’s clearly not in a rush to cash in on her Emmy gold by milking her series dry.

So, “Fleabag” fans can rest easy knowing that there might be more of our beloved troublemaker in the future. But it’s not happening anytime soon, so we can just relax.
