Phoebe Waller-Bridge is having a great 2019. She’s wowed viewers and critics with her Emmy-winning second season of “Fleabag.” Her other TV series, “Killing Eve,” continues to do great, earning acclaim and even more awards. And as a writer, Waller-Bridge has apparently wowed the people that produce the James Bond franchise with her script help on “No Time to Die.” In fact, her ability to punch up the script for the new 007 film was so impressive, she might be back for another round of Bond goodness.
According to the Daily Mail’s Baz Bamigboye (someone who tends to break Bond news all the time), Barbara Broccoli and the rest of the Bond producers are so pleased with Waller-Bridge’s work on the “No Time to Die” script that they’re trying to woo her back for the inevitable ‘Bond 26,’ which is clearly still years away.
For those that don’t remember, Waller-Bridge was brought on to help punch up the script for “No Time to Die” at the request of Daniel Craig, who felt the dialogue and story needed a female perspective. Apparently, once the writer was helping, her work became much more than just a quick pass at the dialogue. Instead, she began helping in more and more places, adding a specific new voice to the film that had been missing.
So, does this mean that Waller-Bridge is definitely coming back to write the script for ‘Bond 26?’ Not exactly. As the report says, we are still months away from “No Time to Die,” and if the amount of time it took to get that film off the ground is any indication, the idea that the Broccoli family is going to rush into production on a new Bond film is unlikely. This is especially the case considering everyone assumes “No Time to Die” is the end of the Craig run as the superspy. Meaning, we’ll likely have to find out who the next James Bond will be before a script is written.
Either way, this does bode well for “No Time to Die.” Hopefully, Waller-Bridge is the missing piece to the puzzle of bringing the superspy into the modern, post-MeToo era. We’ll find out when the film arrives in theaters on April 8, 2020.
