'Physical' Trailer: Rose Byrne Goes From '80s Housewife To Aerobics Pioneer In Apple TV+'s Dark Comedy Series

Filmmaker Craig Gillespie is probably hoping he has a pretty big summer this year. Not only does he have a feature film arriving tomorrow, “Cruella,” which is expected to be a big hit for Disney, but he’s also the direct of some episodes of the upcoming Apple TV+ series, “Physical.”

And as seen in the trailer for “Physical,” it appears Gillespie is trying to capture that same dark comedy tone that he was able to create so well in “I, Tonya” in his new Apple TV+ series. “Physical” stars Rose Byrne as a housewife in the ‘80s that has to figure out a way for her family to start to earn more money. She then finds herself leading aerobics classics (it’s the ‘80s, you know…) and eventually turning that into a pretty big business. But since this was decades ago, the idea of a housewife becoming a breadwinner and finding her own agency isn’t as embraced as it is today, leading to a strained relationship with her husband.

Joining Byrne in the cast are Rory Scovel, Dierdre Friel, Della Saba, Lou Taylor Pucci, Paul Sparks, and Ashley Liao. As mentioned, “Physical” comes from a trio of directors that includes “I,Tonya’s” Craig Gillespie alongside Liza Johnson and Stephanie Laing. The streaming series is showrun by Annie Weisman, who previously worked on shows such as “Almost Family,” “The Path,” and “About a Boy.”
