Pilou Asbaek To Star Opposite Jason Momoa In 'Aquaman 2'

If you believe the current release dates, then we should be expecting a new “Aquaman” film at the end of 2022. But since that date was announced a while back, we have yet to hear much about the forthcoming sequel. Well, it appears that the ball is starting to roll on the new James Wan film, as we are getting a first report on who is joining Jason Momoa in the cast of the highly-anticipated superhero film.

According to Deadline, Pilou Asbaek is set to star opposite Momoa in “Aquaman 2.” Of course, there’s no news about what role Asbaek might portray in the film, and it’s unclear what the plot of the film will actually be. Obviously, we can expect Momoa to return as Arthur Curry, aka Aquaman, and he’ll definitely have multiple shirtless scenes. And it’s expected that we’ll see Amber Heard return as Mera.

Asbaek is probably best known for his role as Euron Greyjoy in the latter seasons of “Game of Thrones.” Yes, Momoa was also in “Game of Thrones,” but since his character didn’t return after the first season, these two actors never overlapped. Interestingly, Asbaek’s role in ‘Thrones’ was of a fearsome pirate, so he’s no stranger to water-based roles.

It’s unclear when we might see production begin on “Aquaman 2.” Obviously, this is a huge film for Warner Bros. as the first feature earned more than $1 billion at the box office and is the biggest earner of the relatively new DCEU films. And considering the critical failure of “Wonder Woman 1984,” WB really can’t afford for “Aquaman 2” to be a bust.

“Aquaman 2” is expected to arrive in theaters on December 16, 2022.
