Netflix might say they have more than 160 million subscribers worldwide. But can the streaming platform claim that it receives 115 million unique visitors each and every day? You know what streaming service can claim that? Pornhub. And now, the incredibly popular adults-only website is deciding to get into the feature film streaming game with a new documentary titled “Shakedown.”
According to Variety, Pornhub will exclusively stream the new documentary “Shakedown” from director Leilah Weinraub. The film is also the first non-pornographic film that the website will release. “Shakedown” is a documentary about the queer women and men who populated the lesbian strip club scene in Los Angeles in the 2000s. The film is the end result of 15 years of footage shot by Weinraub.
“There’s a cool opportunity right now to present films in the art space, there’s more openness to diversity and content, and a different sort of storytelling,” Weinraub said.
Alex Kelin, Pornhub’s brand director, said, “This film is part of a larger general commitment Pornhub has to supporting the arts. We want to be seen as a platform that artists and creators can use. We’ve seen artists in general upload content to the site, that might not have a home at places like YouTube or Vimeo, who don’t permit nudity. For us, premiering a feature-length film is a first, we’re very excited about it.”
And for those that would write “Shakedown” off as some sort of terrible documentary that could only find itself on a porn website, you’re wrong. The doc has already been shown on the art circuit to great acclaim and will find itself not only on Pornhub this month, but it will also end up streaming on The Criterion Channel, as well as iTunes this spring.
But if you want to watch the film for free, you will have to venture over to Pornhub, where you can “Shakedown” beginning tomorrow.
