‘Predator: Badlands’ International Trailer: Latest VFX-Heavy ‘Predator’ Installment Goes Off-World With Androids & New Aliens On November 7

Next month sees the return of the solo “Predator” franchise on the big screen with “Predator: Badlands” starring Elle Fanning as Thia, a Weyland-Yutani synthetic, and Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi as a young rookie Yautja who has to team up to face other threats on an alien planet.

The ambitious movie directed by Dan Trachtenberg (“Prey,” “Predator: Killer of Killers”) is taking the franchise in a slightly different direction as we see the Predator not only in the future but on an entirely new alien planet, which doubles as a hunting ground, and is going with a PG-13 rating, the first for the solo side (“Alien Vs. Predator,” a non-canon crossover, went for a similar rating).

However, producers have stated the reasoning behind dicession to go with a PG-13 is that we won’t be seeing any humans in the fray (blood and human gore becomes a huge hang-up for the ratings board at the MPAA), so they had a lot more wiggle-room when it comes to gruesome action scenes with aliens and androids (Thia, won’t be the only one on the planet, seemingly it is being colonized by the company, and a wave of fellow synthetics with futuristic weapons in toe). That rating, allowing for younger audiences and families to buy tickets, likely also has to do with the massive boost in digital effects that are on full display.

An official logline for the latest installment, courtesy of 20th Century Studios:

Set in the future on a deadly remote planet, “Predator: Badlands” follows a young Predator outcast (played by newcomer Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi) who finds an unlikely ally in Thia (Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Elle Fanning) as he embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary.
