Comedian, writer, producer, director, political commentator, actor, and television host Jon Stewart left “The Daily Show” in 2015, one year before Trump was elected into office and in retrospect, was that the worst timing of a TV host exit in the history of the medium? In the meantime, Stewart’s done activism (helping out 9/11 families get what they’re owed and pressuring congress) and directing films (2020’s political satire “Irresistible“). Six years later and partly due to AppleTV+ likely driving up a dump truck of money to his house, Stewart is back with “The Problem With Jon Stewart,” which announced its premiere date, September 30, 2021, in a new teaser trailer.
AppleTV+ is going all-in on this one, and there will be an accompanying podcast to go along with the show. What’s the show about? Well, it’s similar, but different and focusing on betterment and change. Here’s the official synopsis:
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the world’s problems. It’s harder to pinpoint the systems responsible for creating them. In this series, Jon Stewart brings together people impacted by different parts of a problem to discuss one big question: How do we come up with change?
Here’s the podcast synopsis, which you elucidate more of the show’s aims too, namely discussing all the problems in the world.
The issues we tackle on The Problem With Jon Stewart are Too Big for TV™—so they spill over into the brilliantly titled The Problem With Jon Stewart podcast. Jon is joined by the staff and expert guests for nuanced discussions, updates on action items, and airing of grievances from writers over jokes that didn’t make the show. The Problem With Jon Stewart is an Apple TV+ podcast produced by Busboy Productions.
“The Problem with Jon Stewart” premieres September 30 on Apple TV+. Watch the teaser trailer, featuring Stewart joking that he got old and shocked with the look of his face, below.
