Got a Tip?

Producer Says ‘Venom’ & ‘Silver And Black’ Linked To MCU, Spider-Man Possibly Also Sticking Around

Earlier this year, producer Amy Pascal put a dark cloud over “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” suggesting that following the planned sequel, the character would be bouncing out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The team up between Marvel and Sony has always been seen as near miraculous and temporary, but now it seems like it could lasting a little bit longer. Tom Holland recently revealed there’s a ‘Spider-Man’ trilogy in the works, and now Pascal says that relationship between Sony and Marvel is going to be growing.

In a new press interview, the producer revealed that the upcoming villain-led spinoffs “Venom” and “Silver And Black” will be connected to the ‘Homecoming’ world, and by extension, the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The revelation is a surprise given that it was widely speculated the films would be not be crossing over.

“Both movies will all take place in the world that we’re now creating for Peter Parker. I mean, they’ll be adjuncts to it, there may be different locations, but it will still all be in the same world and they will be connected to each other,” Pascal said about the villain driven pictures (via io9).

Again, this is truly a surprise, so much that Marvel’s Kevin Feige tried and failed to hide his own shock while sitting beside Pascal. It’ll be interesting see how this all ultimately plays out.

Meanwhile, ‘Homecoming’ director Jon Watts also suggested that Peter Parker would be sticking around the MCU. During the Supernova Comic Con in Sydney (via Heroic Hollywood), he responded to Pascal’s earlier comments this spring about Spider-Man having limited time in the MCU, and Watts put those worries aside by saying Pascal was mostly addressing the historic nature of the deal between the two studios. He also added that ‘Homecoming’ would have a killer post-credits scene.

This is all exciting for fans, but we’ve been down the path of ambitious Spider-Man plans with Sony before, so let’s hope they get the first film right before getting ahead of themselves. “Spider-Man: Homecoming” opens on July 7th.
